Fly overnight to Thailand. Day 2:Chiang Rai. Arrive and transfer to your hotel in Chiang Rai for a two-night stay. D Day 3: Chiang Rai. Visit a tea plantation and tribal villages en route to the `Golden Triangle', where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Enjoy a boat ride on the Mekong. B, L Day 4: Chiang Mai. Travel to Chiang Mai for a three-night stay. En route visit the extraordinary surrealist Wat Rong Khun ­ the White Temple. At a Handicraft Village see silk weaving and painted paper umbrella production. B, L Day 5: Chiang Mai. Visit the Ethical Elephant Sanctuary then the small forest temple of Wat Palad. Visit the grand mountain-top Wat Phra That temple at sunset by cable car. Tonight, enjoy a Kantake dinner and show. B, L, D Day 6: Chiang Mai. After shopping at a local market, join a cookery class. Make various Thai dishes and enjoy them for lunch. B, L Day 7: Phitsanulok. Drive to Phitsanulok, one of the largest cities in northern Thailand, for an overnight stay with free time to explore. B, L Day 8: Sukhothai. Travel to Sukhothai for an overnight stay. Take a tram tour of the Historical Park to see the UNESCO-listed remains of Old Sukothai, the first capital of Thailand, founded in 1238. The central zone contains the remains of 21 temples, including the grandest, the Wat Mahathat. Lunch is at a local restaurant. B, L Day 9: Ayutthaya. Drive to Ayutthaya to stay overnight. Tour the famous, UNESCO-listed ruins of a temple complex founded in 1350. Visit Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, part of the Royal Palace complex. See the temple of Wat Mahathat and its iconic Buddha head amongst tree roots. B, L Day 10: Kanchanaburi. Visit Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-In Palace, the 17th-century former Royal Summer Residence. Afterwards, drive to Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai for a two-night stay. B, L Day 11: Kanchanaburi. At the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre learn about the `Death Railway', immortalised in the film Bridge on the River Kwai. Visit the Allied War Cemetery and enjoy lunch overlooking the river, with the afternoon at leisure. B, L Day 12: Bangkok. Travel to Thailand's capital, Bangkok, for a three-night stay on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. En route board a boat and explore the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. B, D Day 13: Bangkok. Tour the city, visiting the Grand Palace, the Buddhist temple Wat Arun and Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew).
