Travel to the seaside town of Troon, on Scotland's west coast, and stay three nights at the 4-star Marine Hotel (4Q). Transfers are available from Glasgow Central Station and Glasgow Airport to the Marine Hotel. The 89-room hotel overlooks the Royal Troon golf course and has a restaurant and heated indoor swimming pool. Day 2: Isle of Bute. Cross the Firth of Clyde to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. This Victorian resort town was once very popular among Glaswegians going 'doon the watter' on their summer holidays, and is home to the watchful ruins of Rothesay Castle. There'll be an included visit to Mount Stuart House a fabulous example of Gothic Revival architecture with plenty of time to explore the grounds, and more of Rothesay, before returning to Troon by ferry. Day 3: Troon. Today is at leisure. Perhaps take a stroll on the sandy beach or esplanade, visit the pretty harbour or browse the shops in the town. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to Culzean Castle, set on a dramatic clifftop surrounded by surging seas, lysa forest and secret gardens. Day 4: Troon-Isle of Arran-Campbeltown. A full-day trip takes you to the Isle of Arran, affectionately known as 'Scotland in miniature' thanks to its rolling countryside, glens, rugged mountain peaks and deep gorges. Visit Brodick Castle, Gardens and Country Park, which is set against the rising summit of Goatfell, Arran's highest point. This imposing, Scottish baronial-style castle has beautiful formal gardens, winding woodland trails through the grounds and national collections of rhododendrons the visit is a guided tour of the Gardens only. There will be a short visit to the Isle of Arran Distillery in Lochranza before you catch the ferry to the Kintyre Peninsula, where you spend the next two nights at the 4-star Royal Hotel (3Q+) in Campbeltown. The 23-room hotel which overlooks the harbour, has a restaurant and its own Black Sheep Pub. Day 5: Isle of Islay. Sailing from Kennacraig, spend the day exploring the beautiful Isle of Islay, the southernmost of the Inner Hebrides. Begin with a visit to the Bowmore Whisky Distillery for a tour. The island's peaty soil and sea air gives the Bowmore Islay Single Malt a distinct flavour knock back a dram or two and see for yourself! Continue to the village of Port Charlotte and the Museum of Islay Life, whose fascinating exhibits date from the Bronze Age, and include ancient pottery and early Christian carvings. Enjoy afternoon tea aboard the ferry on your return trip to the mainland. Day 6: Campbeltown-TroonGlasgow. Catch the ferry to Ardrossan on the Scottish mainland (alternative routes may be used depending on the seasonal timetable). The coach will drop you off back at the Marine Hotel if you need to pick up your car, or you can disembark at Glasgow Airport or Glasgow Central Station.
