Fly to Vienna and enjoy a sightseeing tour of some of the city highlights. Spend the next three nights at the locally rated 4-star Derag Livinghotel Kaiser Franz Josef. This evening, enjoy dinner at a typical Viennese Heurigen, with live music. D Day 2: Vienna. Explore Vienna on a walking tour through its historic centre before heading for the Vienna State Opera House, one of the world's great opera houses. Look forward to a guided `behind the scenes' tour when you can learn about the history, architecture and organization of the opera house. This evening take your seats at the elegant Wiener Kursalon a performance by the Salonorchestra Alt Wien, including works by Strauss and Mozart. B Day 3: Vienna. Explore the city of Vienna independently today or perhaps join an optional excursion to Bratislava. This evening, dinner is at a local, traditional Schnitzel restaurant. B, D Day 4: Vienna to Graz. Travel to the train station to board your high-speed railjet train to Graz, Austria's second city. The journey encompasses the famous Semmering railway, a feat of mid 19th-century engineering. On arrival, an included half-day sightseeing tour by bus reveals the higlights of the city whose historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stay three nights at the locally rated 3-star Hotel Restaurant Gollner in Lebring, 30 kilometres outside the city centre. B, D Day 5: Lipizzaner Stud Farm Piber. Visit the country's only federal stud farm, that has been breeding world-famous Lipizzaner stallions since 1920. After a Styrian lunch with folk music, visit artisanal mills where pumpkin seed oil is produced, and enjoy a guided tour and tasting. B, D Day 6: Graz. Enjoy a day at leisure to explore the city independently. Alternatively, join an optional excursion through the `Austrian Tuscany' wine-growing region to Maribor in Slovenia. B, D Day 7: Graz to Salzburg. Board your train in Graz for your half-day train journey to Salzburg, crossing the Dachstein Mountains and passing picturesque towns. Spend three-nights at the locally rated 4-star Amadeo Hotel Schaffenrath. B, D Day 8: Salzburg. A baroque masterpiece, Salzburg's remarkably well-preserved old town ­ Alstadt ­ is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take to the streets on a guided walking tour of the city, with an included visit to the house where Mozart was born, with an exhibition relating to Mozart, his life and music. This evening take your seats for a concert at the Salzburg Fortress Hohensalzburg in the glittering `golden hall' with views of the city beyond. B Day 9: Lake St Wolfgang and Hallstatt. Travel to the quaint village of St Gilgen for a boat ride on lake St Wolfgang. Next continue the town of Hallstatt, set on the edge of Lake Hallstatt and built into the side of the Dachstein Mountains. Return to Salzburg, pausing en route in the handsome spa town of Bad Ischl. B, D Day 10: Salzburg to Munich. Travel by train to Munich airport for your return flight to the UK. B Austria by Rail Music.
