Fly overnight to South America. Day 2: Cuzco-Sacred Valley. Arrive in Colombia this morning and fly on to Cuzco in Peru. Transfer to the Sacred Valley for a two-night stay. Welcome dinner at the hotel. D. Day 3: Sacred Valley. On an included full-day excursion explore the ancient terraces of Moray. After a packed lunch head to Maras for a scenic three-hour, four-mile hike downhill to the salt flats at Salineras. Walk down to the Urubamba River to meet your coach back to the hotel. B L Day 4: Sacred Valley-Machu Picchu.Take a train into the mountains and Machu Picchu. Disembark en route and visit Chachabamba, followed by a four-hour trek to the Inca ruin, Wiñaywayna. The moderate-grade walk includes an ascent of some 2,000 feet of altitude. Cross into the Machu Picchu site for a guided tour. Afterwards trek down to the bus stop ­ taking your total distance covered on foot today to around eight miles. Stay overnight in a hotel in Aguas Calientes. B L D Day 5: Machu Picchu-Cuzco. Morning at leisure. This afternoon, travel to Cuzco for a two-night stay. B Day 6: Cuzco. At leisure in Cuzco, the imperial capital of the Inca Empire. An optional tour visits some remnants of that era, including the fortress of Sacsayhuaman. You can opt to take a guided trek from the fortress back into the city. Dinner show at a restaurant. B D Day 7: Puno. The long coach journey to Puno is punctuated by visits to Andahuaylillas and Raqchi. Stay two nights in Puno. Alternatively, travel by luxury train for an additional charge (visits not available). B L Day 8: Lake Titicaca. Head out on Lake Titicaca to visit the Uros community, whose homes are on floating `islands' made of reeds. Also visit Taquile Island for lunch in a local home. B L Day 9: Colca. Enjoy a scenic drive to the Colca Valley and stay overnight. B L D Day 10: Arequipa. Scale the slopes of Colca Canyon to Condor's Cross to see majestic Andean condors soaring overhead. Continue to Arequipa for a two-night stay. B L Day 11: Arequipa. An included half-day city tour also takes in Santa Catalina, a huge convent built in 1579. Some 20 nuns still reside in the complex. B Day 12: Lima. Transfer to Lima for an overnight stay. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a restaurant overlooking the illuminated ruins of Huaca Pucllana, a vast 5th-century pyramid built from millions of clay bricks. B D Days 13-14: Lima. An optional tour of the city reveals its colonial elegance. This afternoon, transfer to the airport for your return overnight flight to the UK, arriving the next day. B. Walks are challenging, some at altitude and covering uneven terrain, ascents and descents. The moderate-grade walk on Day 4 will include an ascent of some 2,000 feet of altitude and a distance of some 12 kilometres. There are some shorter walks and most days involve some walking.
