Your journey with us... Day 1: UK to Basel. Fly to either Zurich or Basel and transfer to the port in Basel to embark your ship. Enjoy a welcome drink reception and dinner on board this evening as you sail towards Breisach. Day 4: Mannheim to Mainz. You may like to join an optional excursion to the medieval university city of Heidelberg after breakfast. Alternatively, you can continue cruising to Mainz for an afternoon of exploring independently. Set sail for Miltenburg tonight. Bamberg You might wish to explore the historic city of Bamberg on the penultimate day of your holiday. Founded in 973, this enchanting Bavarian cathedral city sits on seven hills overlooking the Regnitz River Valley. Its rich architectural legacy earned Bamberg UNESCO World Heritage status in 1993. Your tour visits the cathedral, a fine representation of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. This stunning building, with twin apses, four towers and an impressive `Prince's Portal', is home to the medieval equestrian statue of the Bamberg Rider, the tomb of Emperor Henry II and other fine examples of German Gothic sculpture (entry to the cathedral may not always be possible). Walk through the historic streets to discover the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) located on an island in the middle of the river, the magnificent Renaissance building of Alte Hofhaltung and the quaint fisherman's houses of `Little Venice'. Day 2: Breisach. You have the full day to explore Breisach in the beautiful Rhine Valley. Alternatively you can join an optional excursion to Lake Titisee in the heart of the Black Forest, for a boat trip and lunch. Depart Briesach late tonight. Day 5: Miltenberg to Wertheim. This morning you can explore the ancient city of Miltenberg, in the shadow of a 13th-century castle. You might wish to join an optional excursion visiting a local brewery before your cruise continues at lunchtime. Day 3: Strasbourg. Look forward to a full day in Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region. You might like to join an optional excursion here, which includes a canal cruise, while another optional excursion visits the pretty wine town of Obernai. Sail overnight to Mannheim. Day 6: Würzburg.
