Your journey with us... Day 1: UK to Amsterdam. Travel by coach from Folkestone to Amsterdam, via Eurotunnel or ferry, and embark your ship. Enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board. Your ship departs early this evening for Haarlem. Day 5: Kampen to Enkhuizen. Cruise to Kampen and moor for the day. The town prospered as a member of the Hanseatic League and many fine buildings can still be seen in the historical centre. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to the pretty, car-free village of Giethoorn, the `Venice of the Netherlands', where distinctive thatched houses line the canals. Cruise to Enkhuizen this evening and moor overnight. Keukenhof the `Garden of Europe' The world-renowned Keukenhof Park, ablaze with colourful flowers each Spring, is on land originally attached to a castle (which is opposite the current gardens) and used for hunting and growing herbs for the castle kitchen hence the name which translates as 'kitchen garden'. The first open-air exhibition, to promote the region's bulb growers and flower exporters, was held here in 1949. Now the exhibition is an annual event lasting eight weeks and featuring various events and themed displays. During your visit you can admire dazzling displays of millions of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths and visit flower and plant shows in the pavilions. Of course, the tulip displays are weather dependent, but they're normally in bloom from mid-March to mid-May. Day 2: Haarlem. Look forward to an included full-day excursion to the wonderful Keukenhof gardens, 'the most beautiful spring garden in the world!' Admire a dazzling array of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths and pick up ideas for your own garden. Your ship departs early evening and cruises overnight towards Gouda. Day 6: Enkhuizen to Hoorn. Enjoy some time to explore Enkhuizen, one of the wealthiest towns in Holland in the 17th century the Dutch Golden Age. You'll then have the afternoon in Hoorn to see the 16th and 17th-century town houses the Dutch East India Company made it a wealthy trading town. Cruise overnight for Amsterdam. Day 3: Gouda to Kinderdijk. This morning travel to The Hague for an included tour. Discover beautiful squares, a huge market and historic buildings in the city that's the seat of government, home to the Royal Family, and host to the United Nations. Your cruise continues to Kinderdijk. Moor here to view the 19 UNESCO-listed windmills and perhaps explore them on an optional excursion. Set sail this evening towards Arnhem. Day 7: Amsterdam. Arrive in the early hours for a full day and night in the capital of the Netherlands. Compact and easy to explore on foot, it's home to many interesting old and new buildings and world-class museums. Or you can explore by coach and canal boat on an optional sightseeing tour. An optional afternoon excursion visits the Katwoude Cheese Farm, the town of Edam and the fishing village of Volendam. Day 4: Arnhem. Arrive in Arnhem in the early hours. Explore independently or perhaps join an optional tour to see famous sights associated with the Battle of Arnhem, also known as Operation Market Garden, a 1944 battle and the subject of the epic war film A Bridge too Far. Depart Arnhem this late tonight. Day 8: Amsterdam to UK. Disembark your ship after breakfast for your return journey to the UK.
