On our comprehensive tour you'll experience the midnight sun and marvel at the spectacle of nature as you encounter thousand-year-old glaciers, Europe's mightiest waterfalls and still-simmering volcanoes. Godafoss falls ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Reykjavik. Fly into Reykjavik for the short transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik for your first night's stay. Afterwards enjoy a tour of Reykjavik, including the old town centre, the Parliament, cathedral, harbour and the city's main landmark, Hallgrimskirkja. Along the way you'll also drive past Arbaejarsafn outdoor museum, where preserved buildings offer a fascinating glimpse into Reykjavik's past. D Day 2: Reykjavik-Borgarnes. Travel north through a landscape of lush valleys and lakes to visit Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring ­ it emits around 180 litres of steaming-hot water a second! You'll also visit the photogenic waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Stay the next two nights at a hotel in the Borgarnes area. B, D Day 3: Snaefellsnes. Today's scenic journey around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula will reveal Snaefellsjokull glacier, which Jules Verne immortalised in fiction as being the entrance to the centre of the Earth. You'll also visit the golden sandy beach of Budir and Arnarstapi, whose rocky shores are a haven for kittiwakes and Arctic terns. B, D Day 4: Borgarnes-Akureyri. Set off early for the far north of the island, pausing en route at an 18th-century turf farm where you'll have the chance to see how Icelanders lived in centuries past at the Glaumbaer folk museum. You arrive in time for a late afternoon sightseeing tour of Akureyri's pretty Old Town. Stay the next two nights at at a hotel in the Akureyri area. B, D Day 5: Husavik. Travel to the whale-watching capital of Husavik for a boat trip in search of these magnificent creatures ­ up to 11 species come to feed here in the summer so you'll have a good chance of spotting something. Afterwards, you continue across the highlands to the Tjornes peninsula and pause for pictures at Asbyrgi Canyon. B, D Day 6: Akureyri-Egilsstadir. See a wealth of natural wonders on today's scenic tour, including Godafoss, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland. Lake Myvatn is a birdwatcher's paradise and you may see grebes, divers and 13 species of duck here, as well as many strange lava formations. Later, you'll peer over the rim of Viti crater, visit the active volcano of Krafla, still warm from its last eruption in 1984, and call at Dettifoss, said to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Stay one night at a hotel in the Egilsstadir area. B, D Day 7: Egilsstadir-Hofn. Learn about a little-known aspect of Icelandic history at Reydarfjordur's World War II Museum before travelling past remote coastal villages and inky-blue fjords to your hotel in the Hofn area. B, D Day 8: Hofn-Kirkjubaejarklaustur. Spanning over 8,000 square kilometres, Vatnajokull is one of Europe's largest glaciers. Discover some of its outlet glaciers and perhaps join an optional boat trip across the iceberg-strewn lagoon before arriving at your hotel in the Kirkjubęjarklaustur area. B, D Day 9: Kirkjubaejarklaustur-Selfoss. Continue through lava fields and black sand desert to see the Reynisrangar sea stacks and Skogarfoss waterfall, then visit the Lava Centre in in Hvolsvöllur. Stay at a hotel in the Selfoss area. B, D Day 10: Selfoss-Reykjavik. Your holiday concludes with the classic Golden Circle tour encompassing the spectacular Strokkur geysir, the `Golden Waterfall' of Gullfoss and Thingvellir National Park, site of Iceland's first parliament. You then return to the capital for a final night at a hotel in Reykjavik. B, D Day 11: Reykjavik-UK. Dependent upon your flight time, transfer to the airport this morning, or enjoy the morning at leisure before transferring to the airport, for your return flight back to the UK.
