Located on a desert plateau on the outskirts of Cairo, this complex includes three main pyramids along with the iconic Sphinx. One of the pyramids, the 'Great' Pyramid of Cheops, is the only remaining monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Built as tombs to protect the mummies of the pharaohs and their treasures taken to the afterlife, the pyramids have now become a symbol of Egypt. Entrance into the Great Pyramid is not included (and is at times prohibited). The pyramids can be closed at times for restoration work, and entrance to the interior may be prohibited. Getting You There Prices are based on Egypt Air from Heathrow. To book see page 267 and call FREE on 0800 300 500 or visit saga.co.uk/europe Please quote EM367 257
