Holy Trinity Church in Berat ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Golem Beach, Durres. Fly to Tirana. Transfer to Durrės and spend four nights at the locally rated 4-star Sandy Beach Resort, Golem. Enjoy dinner and a welcome drink. D Day 2: Golem Beach, Durrės . Join a scenic coach tour of Tirana to see its jigsaw of contrasting architectural styles. Then explore the Block area independently, once a haven for Head of State Enver Hoxha and the communist elite but now the nucleus of Tirana's trendy cafe culture. Visit Tirana's cultural hub, Block' Art 1 and drop in on Albania's most famous living artist for tea before enjoying an Albanian dinner at a traditional restaurant. B, D Day 3: Golem Beach, Durrės . At leisure. Relax by the hotel pool or enjoy a day on the private beach, with cooling dips in the inviting Adriatic. Alternatively, join an optional tour of the historic sites of Durrės with wine and produce tasting at the oldest winery in Albania. Perhaps take advantage of the All inclusive upgrade. B Kruja Durrės nights in hotel Tirana Elbasan Berat Macedonia Ohrid Lakes Pogradec Vlore Llogara National Park Albania Gjirokastėr Butrint Saranda Day 4: Golem Beach, Durrės . At leisure. However, if you're feeling adventurous, set out on an optional excursion to see the little-viewed historical sites of Kruja, including Kruja Castle and bazaar, then enjoy Albania's first `slow food' experience with lunch on a local farm. B Day 5: Golem Beach, Durres to Gjirokastėr to Saranda. Today you transfer to the locally rated 5-star Hotel Santa Quaranta, in Saranda, stopping en-route in World Heritage listed Gjirokastėr, birthplace of the former communist dictator, Enver Hoxha. Enjoy its perfectly preserved Ottoman old town, Castel of Argjiro, an authentic Greek coffee in the bazaar and the military museum in the Fortress of Gjirokastėr. Pause at the Blue Eye natural springs on the way to your hotel in Saranda, for a three-night stay. B Day 6: Saranda. After breakfast set out on an adventure tour of Butrint, where Albania's most important archaeological site is found. Outstanding ruins include a Greek theatre and paleo-Christian baptistry, featuring a beautifully preserved Roman mosaic floor. Enjoy a traditional lunch on a farm before returning to Saranda and your hotel. B Day 7: Saranda. At leisure. Enjoy free time in the comfortable surroundings of your hotel, with its pool and private beach on the Ionian Sea. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to see the historical sights of Mesopotam and tour Saranda city centre. In the evening everyone can enjoy dinner and `isopolifonia' serenade in a castle above Saranda, accompanied by a Mediterranean sunset and panoramic views of the city and Corfu in the near distance. B, D Day 8: Saranda to Berat. After breakfast, wind your way along Albania's southern coast towards Berat, stopping to admire seaside beauty spots where the petticoats of the Ēika Mountain range meet the Ionian Sea. Perhaps treat yourself to lunch at a restaurant in the Llogara National Park, then drive to the harbour city of Vlore, where Albanian independence was declared in 1912. Travel on to the locally rated 4-star Hotel Grand White City in Berat, for an overnight stay. B Day 9: Berat to Pogradec. After breakfast enjoy a walking tour of Berat, one of the world's oldest continually inhabited cities, where glistening white Ottoman dwellings have earned it the moniker of `city of a thousand windows'. Discover umpteen buildings of architectural and historical importance and slip into Onufri Museum to find spectacular 16th-century paintings and faded frescos. Stop for a traditional lunch at an Albanian home then continue to Pogradec and locally rated 3-star Hotel Pogradec, for two nights. B, L Day 10:Pogradec. At leisure. Enjoy the hotel facilities or relax on the lake beach.
