Moscow's Metro Discover a world of glorious architecture hidden beneath the streets of the city, on an optional walking tour of the Moscow Metro system. Opened in 1935 with one 11-kilometre line and 13 stations, it was the first underground rail system in the Soviet Union. The architects and artists worked to design a structure that embodied `svetloe budushchee' a radiant future using high ceilings, marble walls and majestic chandeliers. During the tour you'll see Novoslobodskaya station with its colourful stained-glass panels, the art-deco arches of Mayakovskaya station and the bronze sculptures of Ploshchad Revolyutsii before returning to the hotel by Metro train.
