The grotto is one the Adriatic's best-known natural beauty spots due to the glowing blue light that appears at certain times of day. Originally only accessible by diving, the cave had one natural entrance below sea level, so an artificial entrance large enough for small boats was built in 1884. The best time of day to visit is between 11am and 1pm where the sun's rays pass through the natural opening and reflect off the limestone floor, illuminating the cave and turning the walls bright blue, whilst objects underwater appear silver.
