Those eager to explore the spectacular coastal scenery can join an optional morning safari that will reveal Tromsø's magnificent mountains, fjords and islands. This evening, look forward to your first included excursion chasing the Northern Lights. Sail away from any light pollution on this boat voyage from downtown Tromsø and scan the skies from the viewing platform for traces of the ethereal ribbons of light. Later, warm up in the lounge and perhaps have a bite to eat from the on-board kiosk. A knowledgeable guide will provide a fascinating insight into the Northern Lights and the places visited on this memorable cruise. B, D Day 3: Northern Lights safari. This morning you can head out across the hinterland on an optional husky-sledge ride. After nightfall, join your second included Northern Lights excursion, this time on a safari that will lead you across the tundra to trace the Northern Lights across the night sky. You'll travel to a private Aurora Base Station where you can sit around a campfire and listen to stories from the local hosts or head into one of the shelters to warm up. There are five stations and the excursion will move on if the weather changes and your odds of sighting the Northern Lights are better at a different one. During your excursion, you'll be provided with a thermal suit. Tripods will also be available and you'll be given advice on the best camera settings to use for photographing this event. B, D Day 4: Panoramic Tromsø. For 360-degree views of Tromsø, join an included Fjellheisen cable-car ride, which will whisk you 421 metres above sea level in just four minutes. At the top, enjoy overlooking Tromsø so you can appreciate its coastal setting. Lunch is included at the mountaintop restaurant. Afterwards, catch the cable car back down and return to your hotel via the bridge that spans the Tromsø Strait. B, L, D Day 5: Reindeer sledding and Sami Culture. Look forward to an included visit to the Sami Cultural Village for a day to experience the north's indigenous culture firsthand. Enjoy tasting some typical food, learn about their artefacts, and listen to storytelling and `joik', traditional Sami song. A highlight will be joining a `raid', the oldest known form of transport in the north and central regions of the Sami culture, where the reindeer and sleds are bound together in a long line headed by the lead reindeer. This afternoon, you may like to join an optional fjord cruise. B, D Day 6: Tromso-Oslo-UK. Transfer to the airport for your return flight home. B Please note: Tromsø has short daylight hours between January and March, and is one of the best times of year to observe the Northern Lights although sightings cannot be guaranteed. At this time of year, the temperature is typically below freezing and can fall to -10°C so Arctic clothing is essential. "Set against a backdrop of snowy mountains and dramatic fjords, Tromsø is the perfect place to experience the wonder of the Northern Lights. With great experiences like reindeer sledding and a boat cruise in search of the Aurora Borealis, you'll be sure to remember this holiday forever."
