Here Greek island life remains true to its cultural origins. Swim, follow hiking trails through idyllic countryside, and hop on a boat to see Europe's largest marine park. You'll soon see why the makers of the film Mamma Mia! were attracted to the area as a location! A view from the island of Skiatos ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Skiathos. Fly to Skiathos and stay five nights at the locally rated 5-star Skiathos Princess. The hotel has a superb location directly on the beach on the island's south coast. Enjoy a welcome dinner. D Day 2: Skiathos. Join an included walk around the wooded Kalamaki peninsula which boasts numerous unfrequented coves. On a crystal-clear day you might get superb views across to Mount Athos on the Greek mainland. For a different view of the island, why not continue by water taxi to Skiathos town where you can explore its old-world cobbled streets. B, L, D Day 3: Skiathos. Today you might like to visit Evangelistria Monastery, where the first Greek flag was woven and blessed in 180, on an optional excursion. B, D Day 4: Skiathos. This morning join your tour manager for a walk through the countryside into the island's wooded interior and pass orchards of pomegranate, pistachio, fig and quince trees. The afternoon is at leisure. B, D Day 5: Skiathos. Relax by the pool or go exploring independently. B, D Day 6: Skiathos-Alonissos. Travel by ferry to the tranquil and unspoilt island of Alonissos, for a five-night stay at the locally rated 4-star Marpunta Village Club. Perhaps pop to the quiet, pine-fringed beach for a stroll or a swim before dinner. B, D Day 7: Alonissos. Hop on a boat for an included full-day excursion to the Marine Park of Alonissos, the largest protected marine area in Europe. You'll stop off at various islands with the opportunity to swim, plus you'll enjoy a photo stop at the Blue Cave where you may spot the Eleonora Falcon. On the island of Kyra Panagia, you may spot dolphins before you climb 52 steep steps for a guided tour of the monastery. B, D Day 8: Alonissos. At leisure. You might like to join an optional beach safari and go snorkelling off three beaches only accessible by boat, while this evening you can join an optional guided tour of the beautiful restored Old Town, the original capital of Alonissos. B, D Day 9: Alonissos.Join your tour manager on a nature walk to see some of the local flora , such as Jerusalem sage, rock rose, the strawberry tree and squirting cucumber ­ which ejaculates its seeds with some ferocity! B, D Day 10: Alonissos. At leisure. Perhaps walk to the island's seaside capital, Patitiri to explore, go hiking, or have lunch. B, D Day 11: Alonissos-Skopelos. Travel by ferry to Skopelos to spend four nights at the locally rated 4-star Adrina Beach. Skopelos is the largest island of the Sporades, and so pretty it was selected as the location for the film Mamma Mia!. Despite this fame it remains scenic and unspoiled. B, D Day 12: Skopelos. See the beauty of the island on an included walk from the mountain village of Pirgos, through pine woods where the air is perfumed with pine and eucalyptus, via the remote church of Panagitsa and onto the beaches of Panormos. Enjoy a dip before lunch in a local restaurant. If the day is clear, enjoy views across the Aegean to Halkidiki. B, L, D Day 13: Skopelos. Enjoy a day at leisure. B, D Day 14: Skopelos. Spend your last day here at leisure. B, D Day 15: Skopelos-Skiathos-UK. After breakfast, travel to the airport for your return flight to the UK. B Please note: Take a suitcase on wheels as no assistance at the ferry ports will be provided. A reasonable level of fitness is needed on this tour as excursions will involve walking, sometimes over uneven ground, steep hills and steps.
