Fly overnight to Vietnam. Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to your hotel for a three-night stay. D Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City. Join a half-day walking tour of Vietnam's largest city ­ formerly Saigon. it was colonised by the French whose influence can still be seen. After the Vietnam War the city was taken by the Vietnamese People's Army and renamed in honour of their communist revolutionary leader. See key sights including the Opera House, Reunification Palace, Notre Dame cathedral and the old Post Office. Perhaps visit the War Remnants Museum. Included dinner cruise on the Saigon River tonight. B, D Day 4: Mekong Delta. A full-day trip reveals the Mekong Delta. Board a boat and tour the fish markets and Dragon Island, then take a ride in a horse and cart through rural villages. Enjoy a boat trip along palm-lined creeks to an islet for lunch before returning to your hotel. B, L Day 5: Cu Chi Tunnels-Danang-Hoi An. Visit the Cu Chi tunnels, the secret underground tunnel network from where the Communist resistance operated during the Vietnam War. Soldiers and civilians lived in the complex, which included kitchens, field hospitals and weapons factories. Fly to Danang in central Vietnam. Transfer to Hoi An, a picturesque former port, to stay for three nights. B, L Day 6: Hoi An. Morning at leisure. An afternoon walking tour reveals this scenic town's merchant houses, Chinese Temple and the famous Japanese covered bridge, which links the Japanese and Chinese communities. A major trading post from the 15th-19th centuries, it was the the silting up of the port that preserved the old town. Its mix of Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese architecture have earned it a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List. B Day 7: Hoi An. Visit the Tra Que village, a 500-year-old vegetable-growing commune. Perhaps lend a hand tending the fields. Afternoon at leisure. Perhaps visit a traditional tea house. B Day 8: Danang-Hanoi. Travel to Danang and fly to Vietnam's capital, Hanoi for an over-night stay. B, L Day 9: Ha Long Bay. Today is sure to be a highlight! Travel to Ha Long City and board a traditional-style junk boat for an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay. Enjoy a buffet lunch and dinner, plus activities such as exploring caves, cooking classes and maybe even squid fishing. Or snorkel or swim from the boat. B, L, D Day 10: Ha Long Bay-Hanoi. Join a sunrise Tai Chi session on deck. Visit a floating village then return to the boat for brunch. Drive back to Hanoi for an overnight stay. Dinner is at a restaurant. B, D Day 11: Hanoi-Luang Prabang, Laos. This morning, tour the ancient city of Hanoi. See the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Ba Dinh Square, and the restored One Pillar Pagoda built in 1049. Visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university, constructed in 1070, then relax in the park by Hoan Kiem Lake. Fly to Luang Prabang in northern Laos. B, D Day 12: Luang Prabang. Discover the highlights of this former royal capital of Laos. See the ornate Royal Palace built in 1904 for King Sisavang Vong to greet visitors arriving by river. Visit the highly decorative Wat Xieng Thong temple, admire the Thai-style Wat Sensoukarahm before lunch at the Silk Road Cafe. Cruise upstream to the Pak Ou Caves, a pilgrimage site where thousands of figures of Buddha have been left as offerings.
