Fly overnight to Tokyo. Day 2: Tokyo. Stay four nights in Tokyo with breakfasts included. B Day 3: Tokyo. Discover Tokyo on an included tour. Visit Imperial Palace Plaza, the upmarket shopping district of Ginza, enjoy a sushi demonstration, then use your new skills to make your lunch! At Hamarikyu Gardens see the cherry blossom ­ or autumn leaves ­ then cruise to historic Asakusa and visit the Senso-ji Buddhist temple. B, L Day 4: Tokyo. Head to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and take in views from the observatory. Continue to the Meiji shrine, dedicated to the Emperor in whose reign the country was modernised. The forest here is spectacular in autumn. Later, take a walking tour of the Harajuku fashion area. B Day 5: Mount Fuji. Visit Mount Fuji and ascend to the 5th station for stunning views (weather permitting). Descend to Lake Kawaguchi for lunch ­ the northern shore is breathtaking in spring and autumn. Later, visit the Icchiku Kubota Museum of kimonos. B, L Day 6: Hiraizumi-Morioka. Catch the bullet train to the north of Honshu Island. At Hiraizumi, visit the UNESCO-listed Chusonji Temple to see the Konjikido, an ornate Buddhist tomb. Cruise through the stunning Genbikei Gorge. Stay overnight in Morioka. Perhaps learn to dance to Taiko Drums. B, L Day 7: Lake Tazawa-Kakunodate-Akita. Travel to scenic Lake Tazawa and admire the seasonal beauty. In Akita, explore the impressive Ishiguro Samurai House. Stay overnight in Akita. B Day 8: Hirosaki-Tsugaru-Aomori. Visit the Namahage Museum, dedicated to local folklore, then Hirosaki Castle. Explore the museum dedicated to Hirosaki's famous summer festival, the Neputa Matsuri. Stay overnight in Aomori. B Day 9: Hakkoda-Hachinohe-Tokyo.
