Bolzano Visit the fascinating town of Bolzano, situated between the Italian-speaking Trentino region, and the German-speaking Alto Adige. This meeting of two cultures has given the town a unique identity. Known as Bozen in German, the town has a strong German character and is also the capital of a mainly German-speaking province, yet three-quarters of its inhabitants speak Italian! Bolzano is nicknamed the 'gateway to the Dolomites', and this lively town, surrounded by vineyards and mountains, is well-known for its excellent food and popular festivals. On this optional excursion there will be time to explore the town and see some of its sights, including the 15th-century Gothic cathedral which features an intricate spire. You'll also visit the museum housing the well-preserved 5,300-year-old body of `Ötzi the Ice Man', found in 1991 in the nearby mountains.
