Drive the Great Ocean Road and seize chances to visit the Blue Mountains and snorkel the Great Barrier Reef... The Indian Pacific train ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Perth. Fly to Perth. Day 2: Perth. Arrive in Perth for a three-night stay. Day 3: Perth. Admire the waterfront scenery of Western Australia's capital on a cruise along the Swan River to the port town of Fremantle. B Day 4: Indian Pacific train. Travel to Perth's Railway Terminal and board the 4-5 star vintage Indian Pacific train for a memorable all-inclusive, two-night journey to Adelaide. Enjoy lunch and dinner on board as you travel across this vast landscape. This evening visit Hannan's North Tourist Mine to hear the story of the discovery of gold here, returning to your train afterwards. B, L, D Day 5: Indian Pacific train. Relax and enjoy the ever-changing scenery as your train makes its way towards Adelaide. Explore the facilities onboard, relax in the lounge bar or take it easy in your Gold Cabin. B, L, D Day 6: Adelaide. Your train journey comes to an end today as you disembark in Adelaide for a half-day tour in `the city of churches', and a two-night stay. B Day 7: Adelaide. Enjoy a day at leisure to explore independently. Alternatively, join an optional food and wine excursion to Barossa Valley or a visit to Kangaroo Island to see the wildlife. B Day 8: Portland. Board your comfortable coach for the five-hour drive along a stretch of the famous Great Ocean Road to Portland. Stay overnight. B Day 9: Melbourne. Your drive continues along one of the world's most scenic coastal drives, the Great Ocean Road, past towering limestone cliffs and beaches pounded by the Southern Ocean. Pause at Port Campbell to see the eight remaining limestone stacks of the Twelve Apostles. Stay three nights in Melbourne. B Day 10: Melbourne. Enjoy another memorable train journey today. Travel to the Yarra Valley, board Australia's oldest narrow gauge steam train, Puffing Billy, and chug through the Dandenong Ranges. Later, visit Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance and Captain Cook's cottage, brought brick by brick from Yorkshire, and now a museum. B Day 11: Melbourne. Today is at leisure. Perhaps take an optional excursion ­ either a guided driving and walking tour through bushland to meet wild koalas or a gourmet tour in the Yarra Valley. B Day 12: Sydney. Fly to Sydney. Transfer to your hotel in the central business district, for a three-night stay. B Day 13: Sydney. Sydney boasts one of the world's most iconic cityscapes which encompasses the famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Enjoy an included half-day city tour including Oxford Street, trendy Paddington, the theatre district of King's Cross and the harbour of Double Bay. Enjoy views of Chinatown and Haymarket, the Royal Botanic Garden and Hyde Park and visit world-famous Bondi Beach. B Day 14: Sydney. Today is at leisure. An optional excursion will take you into the Blue Mountains to visit Featherdale Wildlife Park, enjoy views of the `Three Sisters' from Echo Point and visit Scenic World, where you could choose to ride the world's steepest incline railway (extra charge). B Day 15: Cairns. After breakfast, fly to Cairns for a three-night stay. B Day 16: Cairns. Once a sleepy tropical port, Cairns is now the `adventure gateway' to Australia's wildlife-rich rain forests and the amazing Great Barrier Reef. You have a free day to explore Cairns or take an optional excursion to the Reef for a snorkelling tour or to view the corals on a semi-submersible or glass-bottomed boat ride. B Day 17: Cairns.
