Cuba is famed for its classic cars ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Havana. Fly to Havana and stay three nights. D Day 2: Havana. Explore Old Havana's narrow cobbled streets, framed by old, colonial-style buildings with wrought-iron balconies and huge wooden doors, with the baroque cathedral at its centre. Contrast the broad avenues of modern Havana, where you'll visit Revolution Square. You can also enjoy a Cuban cocktail lesson and dinner at a local restaurant. Tonight, an optional excursion visits the spectacular open-air Tropicana Nightclub, where Cubans have enjoyed cabaret for 70 years. B, L, D Day 3: Havana. Explore the faded pastel grandeur of extraordinary old Havana independently. See palatial but crumbling baroque homes, refurb'ed 1950s American cars and friendly, smartly-dressed locals smoking massive cigars ­ even the women! Alternatively, a full-day optional excursion visits the scenic Viñales Valley. B, L, D Day 4: Cayo Santa Maria. Depart for this small island off Cuba's north coast where you spend the next two nights. En route, visit the picturesque town of Santa Clara, the final resting place of Che Guevara, having been liberated by him in 1958. B, L, D Day 5: Cayo Santa Maria. Enjoy the hotel facilities, water sports and white sand beaches. Alternatively, explore the Wildlife Refuge with its abundant birds, on an optional excursion. B, L, D Day 6: Sancti Spiritus. Visit the lovely Spanish colonial town of Trinidad, where sugar fortunes paid for brightly-painted mansions in the 1800s. Enjoy stunning views from the tower of Palace Cantero Museum and call in at the famous La Canchanchara Bar for a Cuba Libre. Stay overnight on the outskirts of Sancti Spiritus. B, L, D Day 7: Camaguey. Explore Spanish colonial Sancti Spiritus, the oldest European settlement on Cuba, then travel to Camaguey, where large rain-collecting urns decorate every street corner and the town plan was designed to trap raiding pirates! Stay overnight. B, L, D Day 8: Bayamo-Santiago de Cuba. Visit tranquil Bayamo, credited as the birthplace of Cuban independence and where horse and cart is the favoured mode of transport. Here, visit a Casa de Trova (community centre) where locals enjoy music and dancing. Continue to Santiago de Cuba for a three-night stay. B, L, D Day 9: Santiago de Cuba. Enjoy a tour of the nation's second city, including a visit to Moncada Baracks and the Museum of the 26th July, commemorating Castro's failed attack in 1953. B, L, D Day 10: Santiago de Cuba. Today is at leisure. An optional harbour cruise provides a different view of the city or you could watch the Changing of the Guard at Santiago Cementario, built for the victims of the War of Independence. B, L, D Day 11: Guardalavaca. After visiting the famous pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Charity outside the city, travel to Guardalavaca for a two-night stay. B, L, D Day 12: Guardalavaca. An optional excursion visits the Chorro de Maita Museum, protecting an excavated indigenous Indian village. B, L, D Day 13: Camaguey.
