You'll also discover the natural world with visits to India's Ranthambore National Park, and UNESCO-listed Chitwan National Park in Nepal, both havens for wildlife including the elusive Bengal Tiger. The iconic Taj Mahal ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Delhi. Fly overnight to Delhi. Day 2: Delhi. Transfer to New Delhi where you stay for two nights. Enjoy an evening introductory talk on Indian history. D Day 3: Delhi. Explore Old and New Delhi on an included tour, taking in highlights including the Raj Ghat memorial to Gandhi. Drive past Jama Masjid ­ India's largest mosque ­ and India Gate, and visit the Lotus Temple dedicated to the Baha'i faith.. B, D Day 4: Delhi-Jaipur. Travel to Jaipur, capital of the state of Rajasthan. Stay for two nights. B,D. Day 5: Jaipur. Visit the mighty Amber Fort with its ornate halls, palaces and gardens, and the Maharaja's City Palace. You'll also see the historic observatory of Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to a collection of early 18th century astronomical instruments on a large scale. B,D. Day 6: Jaipur-Ranthambore. Travel to Ranthambore where you will stay for two nights. Visit Ranthambore National Park, known for its tigers and once the hunting grounds of Maharajas, now a major reserve and haven. B,D. Day 7: Ranthambore. Head to the national park for an early morning safari watching for wildlife including sambar ­ the largest species of Asiatic deer, a wealth of water birds, crocodiles and the tigers for which the park is famous. This afternoon there's another included safari. B,L,D Day 8: Ranthambore-Bharatpur-Agra. Travel by train to Bharatpur and on to the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri, once a Mughal capital, for an included tour. Constructed from red sandstone, this beautiful city was abandoned after just 14 years but retains such highlights as its huge gateway, an audience hall and more. Continue to Agra, where you stay two nights. B,D Day 9: The Taj Mahal. See the Taj Mahal in Agra in the early morning sun. Commissioned by Shah Jahan in 1560 in memory of his favourite wife, Mumtaz, this architectural masterpiece is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This afternoon visit the Agra Fort ­ another stunning example of Mughal building ­ with its complex of beautiful buildings including palaces and courtyards. B,D Day 10: Agra-Kathmandu-Nargakot. Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to Nargakot where you stay for one night. Enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel this evening. B,D Day 11: Kathmandu. Travel to Bhaktapur ­ part of the Kathmandu Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a city tour taking in such highlights as Durbar Square, enjoy lunch with a local family, then walk through the village of Gundu. Transfer to Kathmandu for a two-night stay. B,L Day 12: Kathmandu. Discover the city of Kathmandu as a morning tour reveals the famous Durbar Square at the heart of this ancient city. You'll also see Boudhanath Stupa with its domed, white and gold exterior, a symbol of enlightenment and flanked by monasteries. B. Day 13: Kathmandu-Pokhara. Transfer to Pokhara where you will stay for the next three nights. B. Day 14: Pokhara. Visit the Gurkha Museum this morning, whose displays look at the lives of Gurkha soliders and their involvement in past conflicts. There will also be an opportunity to meet a Gurkha veteran who will offer insights into life as Gurkha. Afternoon at leisure. B. Day 15: Pokhara. Travel to Kalabang where you can watch the sunrise over the Himalayas. Enjoy a village hike and visit to a coffee plantation. B. Day 16: Pokhara-Kathmandu. Drive back to Kathmandu where you stay for two nights.
