NAMIBIA Where Deserts Meet 15 nights from £3449 Including optional travel insurance or from £3378 without insurance§ Namibia is a land of staggering diversity where two great deserts meet, from the surreal beauty of the Namib Desert to the sandy peaks and valleys of the Kalahari. Namibia's sand dunes ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Windhoek. Fly overnight to Windhoek. Day 2: Windhoek. Stay overnight and enjoy a welcome dinner. D Day 3: Kalahari Desert. Enjoy a morning tour featuring the State House and the Christuskirche, built for the German Evangelical Lutheran settlers in 1907. Travel to visit the Rehoboth Museum before heading to your lodge for the next two nights. B, D Day 4: Kalahari Desert Walk in the Kalahari with a bushman tracker to learn his desert survival secrets and hear the history of the ancient San people. Afterwards,enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Alternatively, you may wish to join an optional game drive through the Kalahari Private Game Reserve. B, D Day 5: Kalahari Desert-Fish River Canyon Set off towards the second largest canyon in the world, Fish River Canyon. Fish River is the longest interior river in Namibia, but its flow is now a small trickle compared with the immense waters that once flowed here. Take in the dramatic landscape of the canyon, which is 550 metres deep and up to 27 kilometres wide. Later, arrive at your lodge perched directly on the rim of the Canyon with breathtaking views, where you stay for the next two nights. B, L, D Day 6: Fish River Canyon. This morning look forward to a Canyon Rim Walk in the company of a guide, when you can discover more about this extraordinary landscape. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure. B, D Day 7: Fish River Canyon-Sesriem. Travel through dramatic scenery to Sesriem, a small settlement in the Namib Desert. Arrive at your lodge for a two-night stay. B, L, D Day 8: Sesriem. This morning enjoy a guided visit to Sesriem, as well as famous Sossusvlei and Sesreim Canyon. Drive through Namib Naukluft Park before transferring to a 4x4 vehicle which will take you to see the famous dunes of Sossusvlei ­ some up to 250 metres high! Afterwards head back, viewing Sesriem Canyon en route, followed by the afternoon at leisure. B, D Day 9: Namib Desert-Swakopmund. Drive towards the coast. En route visit the canyons and surreal lunar-like landscapes of Namib Naukluft Park, home to the endemic welwitschia mirabilis plant which can live for over a thousand years. This afternoon enjoy a city tour of Swakopmund with its distinctly German influence, where you'll spend the next two nights. B, D Day 10: Swakopmund. Enjoy a morning cruise around Walvis Bay ­ with sparkling wine and fresh oysters included! From your vantage point on deck, look out for seals, dolphins and sea birds including pelicans and cormorants. This afternoon is at leisure. B, D Day 11: Cape Cross Seal Reserve and Damaraland. This morning head for Damaraland, a huge, untamed, ruggedly beautiful region of Namibia. Stop en route for an included trip to Cape Cross to visit the seal reserve, where seals thrive on the abundant fish and undisturbed surroundings. The fur seals found here differ from other species, distinguished by their little external ears. Afterwards, continue to Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rock engravings and paintings, where you'll stay overnight at your lodge. B, L, D Day 12: Etosha. Depart this morning and head towards Etosha National Park, visiting the Twyfelfontein rock paintings en route ­ the richest archaeological site in Namibia with approximately 2,500 rock engravings and paintings. Afterwards, continue to your lodge situated on a hilltop location in Epacha Wildlife Reserve, where you stay for the next two nights. Day 13: Etosha. Visit Etosha National Park, the third largest game park in Africa.
