Tokyo ACTIVITY LEVEL Day 1: UK-Tokyo. Fly overnight to Tokyo. Day 2: Tokyo. Transfer to your hotel, where you'll stay for two nights. Day 3: Tokyo. Discover Tokyo's clash of old and new on a tour of the city. Circumnavigate the city on the Yamanote Line railway or discover the remains of the ancient city walls in the tranquil East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, the exterior of which you'll see today. B Day 4: Hakone. Travel to Hakone, stopping in Kamakura to discover shrines and temples, including Hase Kannon Temple. Ascend to the summit of Mount Kamiyama by cable car and, later, enjoy a cruise on Lake Ashi. Stay overnight in Hakone. B, D Day 5: MatsumotoTakayama. Experience a sightseeing tour of 8th-century Matsumoto and discover Matsumoto Castle, a national treasure and the best-preserved castle in Japan. Travel to Takayama where you stay for two nights. B, D Day 6: Takayama. Explore charming, unspoilt Takayama on a full-day walking tour. Peruse the Asaichi Morning Market, visit an exhibition of elaborate festival floats, see the traditional wooden homes of `Little Kyoto' and enjoy a traditional tea ceremony. B Day 7: Shirakawago-Kanazawa. Visit the unique mountain-top village of Shirakawago to discover the art of Japanese paper making. Then travel to Kanazawa, a centre for traditional craft, and visit Kenroku-en Garden, one of the most beautiful feudal lords' gardens in Japan. Stay overnight in Kanazawa. B Day 8: Kyoto.
